The main objectives of the WBNTP are to:
Minimise the amount of traffic generated by businesses in the
town and
endeavour to maintain traffic levels as low as practicable
Maximise the potential and encouragement for workers to consider
the use of
alternative and sustainable transport modes in relation to
travel
Establish walking, cycling, the use of public transport and car
sharing as
feasible and realistic alternatives to single occupancy car use for
everyday
commuting
Some of the initiatives proposed within the plan include:
The appointment of a WBNTP Project Manager who will be an
experienced
sustainable travel specialist
Promotion of Walking, cycling and public transport as feasible
and realistic
alternatives to the car where appropriate
A bicycle loan scheme which will involve the purchase of 100
robust bicycles
over the next couple of years which will be loaned free of charge
to selected
local companies
Up to date travel information made available to the management and staff of Watford Companies
Enhancement , rebranding and roll out of the Watford Journey Share System
Assistance and advice on developing in- house sustainable travel schemes
The creation of a business travel forum to create partnerships
and to exchange
ideas and best practice
